Dror is an idea-driven design practice producing innovative architectural designs, products, and installations. Based in New York City, the studio consists of an international staff of architects, designers and artists committed to pushing the boundaries of their respective fields and creating impactful structures and environments. The studio’s evocative and ethereal work arises from the interplay of these diverse disciplinary backgrounds.
Dror partners with top-tier companies, developers, and institutions that share the studio’s commitment to design excellence and strive to test the limits of convention. Our collaborators include Alessi, Bentley, Cappellini, Yigal Azrouël, Puma, Shvo, Target, and Tumi. The studio is currently working internationally on a range of projects varying in nature and scale from furniture to urban planning.
Dror Benshetrit received his education at the Eindhoven Design Academy in Holland. Since establishing the studio in 2002, Dror continues to collaborate with architects, designers, fabricators, choreographers, historians, engineers and other creative professionals. Finding inspiration in art, geometry, physics and poetry, Dror is interested in pushing the possibilities of design beyond its functional application to create atmospheric, imaginative experiences.
Dror lectures locally and abroad, most recently at The University of Pennsylvania’s School of Design, University of Nebraska, and the Wolfsonian Museum. Dror received the Red Dot Award (2012), the Good Design Award (2008, 2010), the iF Product Design Award (2006), and is the selected winner of the GE Plastics Competition “Merging Boundaries” (2001). His work is included in the permanent collections of major museums in North America, Europe and the Middle East. He currently serves on the board of the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City.
