Considering the Alvar Aalto Student Contest in Bremen we had to give answers for new working- and living habitats, which took place at the working field of the TUV building. First we had to give attention to the urbanity arrangements. Thereafter we had to delve into one part of our plan and work it out.

The place requested at the Alvar Aalto Student Contest, was in the Georg-Bitter-Quartier nearby the city center of Bremen, Germany. On such a place it was considerable to build something that integrates itself into the neighborhood in a functional and optical way.

Interior utilization

The basic concept is to see the dispartment of the building inside and outside. The arcades, which only include the staircases for the apartments and the offices, separates the front and the back part of the building and the outside room as well.

The buildings are splitted in Apartments, Row houses and office/retail spaces. This attracts different groups of people like singles, couples, families, businesspeople or shop owners. The Apartments are 80 - 90qm big. The Row houses offer 80 – 180qm and a private patio. The office- and retail spaces are 60 – 100qm big and offer different usability’s.

The arrangement of the buildings formed different spaces that I assigned specific uses. Some of them are used as parking lots others are used for recreation areas or private patios.

Structural design

The strict order of the buildings is mixed up by the exceptionally façade. It mostly consists of longish windows that are arranged in a strict way, highlighted by big windows framed by a concrete-coverage. The coverage is composed of four parts providing the possibility to be locally built together. The concrete-frame is very plastically so the façade seems to be 3-dimensional, like the balcony’s, which are residented on the back side of the building. The height of the attic stretches the buildings and the short plate frames the concrete-coverage.
