He was born in 1960. He completed his primary, secondary and high school education in Ankara. He was graduated from Gazi University Department of Architecture in 1982. In 1986, He attained a master’s degree after graduating from the same university by the thesis called "Adjustment principles of spas in Turkey, Yeni Kaplıca being the sample."

While studying at the university, he worked at Mustafa Aslaner Architects and Çinici Architects. After graduating, he worked at Yurdanur Sepkin – Öner Olcay Architects and Nedim Dikmen – Mehmet Kibar Architects. Until 1994, He worked at Gazi University Department of Architecture as a research assistant while attending a Ph. D programme.

D. Ümit Yücel founded 3EMimarlık & Dekorasyon LTD ŞTİ in 1994. While experiencing designing and manufacturing in his atelier, he produced a variety of architectural projects on the subject of residential, public, cultural, embassy, sports, urban design, construction in natural and historical environment and decoration. He also participated numerous competitions of architectural project and urban design.

Philosophy: He questionizes relations of built environment, and by studying lifetime with idea systems he aims generating spatial fictions to social problems. He argues for living values’ system with natural surrounding and user. He creates spaces with an understanding of sustainable design.
