The Powerhouse School of Architecture

HISTORY: The Powerhouse was built in 1928 and was originally a courthouse. The building was turned into a coal-fired power plant by the city before it was abandoned. It is now listed on the “National Register of Historic Places”.

CLIENT: A prestigious architecture professor from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has commissioned the design of an architecture school in St. Louis. Personal reasons are taking him to St. Louis and he wants to continue his work as a professor of design.

THESIS STATEMENT: The project will be a small school of architecture where the students can immerse themselves in an environment that sparks their passion and ignites their inspiration for design.

CONCEPT: Inspiration can strike in an instant just as lightning can.
