New building for Lausanne University

The base of the building, anchored in the earth and robust by its mid-rise materialization, contains the entire program related to student life. It is integrated into the orthogonal grid of the eastern pole with a glazed façade overlooking an organic landscaped area. The south façade is folded and follows the curvature of the building perimeter. The two corners are truncated in order to open the restaurant to an outdoor terrace connected to the river to the west and bicycle parking to the east. The base is perforated in the center by a large patio that brings greenery and light to the different spaces. The plan is governed by a regular grid that allows great flexibility and is punctuated by various circulation spaces. The platform favors dynamic configurations that allow for meetings and synergy between students. A circular staircase connects the basement, the first floor and creates a junction between the base and the bar.

The new building and its exterior arrangements allow for the promotion of encounters and the sharing of knowledge where the physical encounter is valued. The pedestal is perceived as a platform for exchange and synergy for students, in the metaphorical image of the digital platform, the new place of progress, and virtual meetings.
