Taryn Lane House - Bali

This house located in Ubud, Bali. Ubud is considered as a sacred and a sanctuary place of the island. This house is owned by Taryn Lane. Taryn Lane is a Community Renewable Energy Advocate & Consultant, she has worked for Australia’s first community-owned wind farm, delivering industry best standards in community engagement, and undertaken research for various education institutions. She imagined the home as a sanctuary space to recharge the mind, body and soul, away from the hustle and bustle of her daily routine. Once we gathered the brief, we worked on the design idea which resonates well with the vision, and settled the project contract.

The land has an extreme contour with tropical green lush forest view. Our design approach was to capitalize on the privilege position with outdoor-indoor, enclosed-open transition. A narrow bridge-like pathway suddenly lead you to a foyer overlooking the view creating a contrast transition between enclosed and open space, interpreted as a symbol of transition from an uptight work to a serene sanctuary. The layout consist of two rectangular angled scrupulously that maximize the space and view, good air, sun, and water circulation, whilst creating a different experience in each space.

The roof used steel roofing for its efficiency to deliver the rain water to water tank. We used waste water management to filter grey water before letting it go to the drainage. All landscape lightings are using a solar panel system. We were able to make the whole house interesting and in harmony with the environment.
