The program proposals are based on the design criteria - Practice, Collaboration and Showcasing, which complements pedagogy of this architectural school.
The design focuses on the relationships between spaces, either adjacent or separate, nesting or interlocking, and the role of circulation.
If space is the machine, then the circulation can be viewed as the assembly line that moves the user from one machine to another.
The efficiency of this process depends both on the logicality of the space organization and the effectiveness of the routing. Following this paradigm, the circulation flows through Practice (the laboratories and workshops), merged together at Collaboration (the gathering space), and finally to Showcasing (the celebrating space of gallery).
The spaces are then analyzed by their permeability and visibility, permeability - the circulation, and visibility - the interaction.
The design is executed with subtractions and additions.
Starting as a cluster of shoe boxes, firstly it's subtracted by all the desirable public spaces, then the circulation is added into the residue, that it transforms the void into solid, and solid into void.
The investigation further goes from volume to plane. Surfaces or part of the surface are
removed to permit visibility between spaces or penetration of light.
The result is a dynamic flow between elaborating spaces that encouraging social activities and academic productivity.
The design is an experiment and investigation of function and form:
Architecture, emerges from mechanism.
