Derek Byron is committed to the notion that each project is an opportunity to reimagine the use of material and space. Through years of splitting time equally between workshop and office, as both carpenter and architect, he has developed an architectural sensibility deeply rooted in the craft of building and fabrication, informed by an appreciation for modern simplicity and traditional craftsmanship, and inspired by material, color and texture.
Derek has served as a design consultant to both arts and education based non-profit organizations, the City of New Haven, and a variety of art studios and architecture firms. He is also a member of Habitat for Humanity, and serves on its planning committee.
Derek Byron received a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Studio Art from Bucknell University, and a Master of Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design. He practices as both a licensed architect and contractor.
