The practice operates from a former box factory converted into artist studios in downtown Brooklyn. For each commission we are committed to finding fresh, thoughtful and affordable solutions for our clients. By combining preservation and innovation, we transform obsolete structures into contemporary assets. This process touches on all aspects of design, from microscopic paint analysis to structural steel connections. For us, breathing new life into neglected spaces never grows old.
Complementing our experience with historic buildings is parallel expertise in sustainable strategies. We have designed multiple residential photovoltaic and solar thermal installations. Our first solar project for a three family brownstone in 2010 was one of the earliest projects in New York City to qualify for federal, state and city tax credits. Two other commissions that deserve mention are a pavilion designed for a writer in Fort Greene featuring the smallest vegetated roof in Brooklyn and the New York Hospital Queens complex which transformed 14,000 square feet of rooftops into living, green infrastructure.
Since the firm was founded nine years ago, we have worked in multiple states, complied with numerous codes and cooperated with local, state and federal agencies to secure preservation as well as energy tax credits for our projects. To assist waterfront community groups with their public mission, we have provided pro bono services. Because process is vital to success, we participate in all aspects of our commissions from design through construction.
