The 2013 Stewardson Competition focused on creating a monastery for The Order of Cistercians, a Christian denomination which lives a life of balance between worship and field work. The design incorporated both places for religious study and prayer in the center while integrating the spaces for fieldwork into the design as a series of terraces.

While much time was spent meeting the rigorous programmatic, sustainability, and code-adherence requirements, the competition also offered a chance to explore and experiment with different visualization and modeling technologies for both rendering and interactivity.
