The Theatrical Collonade occupies a city block at the heart of the London’s Embankment, prominent from both the riverfront and the Strand. It is surrounded by a number of historic listed buildings. The proposed elevation is composed of columns of varying heights, providing shading and making a visual link with materials found in this con- text. The dimensions of these components are derived from the columns in the facades of neighbouring buildings. The map on the left represents the allocation of the columns and the height of each one. This ‘taxonomy’ of columns restores the vertical aesthetic and proportion to the site, characteristic of the existing buildings in the area.
