Professor Katherine Ambroziak | Architectural Design VIII | Fall 2012
Situated on the highest ridge in an impoverished Knoxville neighborhood, the Beaumont Center is a teaching kitchen, meal center, and community garden. The center acts as a surrogate home for youth in the surrounding community. Designed with youth in mind, the center is open for everyone. The intent of the design is to provide a secondary home for the community while also teaching them gardening and health skills.
The parti of the design is reminiscent of an Italian street which connects the major spaces of the building then projects out into the landscape finally terminating at the butterfly pavilion. Each of the major programmatic elements also have large open spaces attached that help connect the building with the surrounding context.
