Amphibian low cost house.
Contributed urban regeneration to an informal settlement in flood risk in Dar es Salaam (Tanzania)
Status: School Project
Location: Dar es Salaam, TZ
My Role: design
Additional Credits: The project proposes a modular "amphibious" home, partially pre-built
affordable and above all durable ... an aluminum cage containing plastic barrels (for a total thrust of 8.200kg) anchored to the ground by a vertical sliding pole
allows the structure to follow the flood level up to a maximum height of 4.5m.
The LIFT_RAFT_HOUSE modules are designed to be self-sufficient for short periods, to create small communities in the event of a crisis.
The module consists of a rectangular base 3x6 m with
1m wheelbase, a butterfly roof to collect the water that is conveyed
in barrels under the building through 2 simple and economical purification systems.
A latrine-prefabricated form, consisting of a Vietnamese dry-composting system, equipped with photovoltaic roofing panels. And a raft module, to move in the flood period.
The building is expandable over time and according to the needs of families who will be able to complete it and refine it according to their tastes with local materials.
From the opportunity to create a kind of participatory planning among the inhabitants.
The project was designed with a look at local buildings with the help of modern technology.
