I am a young designer, well rounded in various design settings and familiar with utilizing several of today’s current digital design tools. I have diverse experience in team-based roles, effective leadership qualities as well as synergistic brainstorming strategies. A recent graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s 2015 class and member of 3t Architect’s design team, I possess successful communication capabilities through drawing, modeling, diagramming and analyzing.I am familiar with the drafting of historical preservation documents, existing site and building conditions, schematic design proposals, design development and construction document sets. Currently, I'm in search of a working environment in which the importance of the intention driving the work parallels the design process. A practice where the social condition governing a space is given as much emphasis as the desire to innovate construction systems with the technology of our time.
3t Architects, Troy, NY, US, Intern Architect
As an intern architect I learned how the practicing world differs from that of the academic. I partook in hands-on work with organizing sheets in drawing sets, modeling existing conditions and design changes in Revit for current projects, drawing details for design options, taking site measurements, drawing key plans and helping the office to communicate various documents with our clients based on each one’s particular needs.
Curtis R. Priem Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center, Troy, NY, US, Video Productions Team
The Curtis R. Priem Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC) is where the arts, sciences, and technology interact with and influence each other by using the same facilities, technologies, and by breathing the same air. EMPAC is dedicated to building bridges between our human senses, to modes of perception and experience, to creating meaning in a physical environment, and to the intangible world of digital technology. It hosts artists and researchers to create new work and present events which ask you to join the quest for new perspectives.
I captured the essence of performances with on the floor videoing, worked within the crowd for audience-engaging installations, managed robotic cameras from a central control room and shared dialogue with artists to help capture their piece’s intent on film.
The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, Ashford, CT, US, Unit Floater--Program Specialist--Facilities
(501 Non-Profit Organization, SeriousFun Children’s Network)
Founder: Paul Newman
Intention: The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp is dedicated to providing “a different kind of healing” to seriously ill children and their families throughout the Northeast, free of charge. It’s a community that celebrates the fun, friendship and spirit of childhood where every kid can “raise a little hell.”
Working in conjunction with the Unit Leader, we are the lifelines from the entire unit of campers, counselors and volunteers back to the leadership team. I "float" between all three cabins in the unit to plan activities, coordinate everyone's time schedule, manage any issues with the campers (from medical to behavior), relay all medical issues from the counselors to the nursing staff and anything in between. This role requires very flexible management tactics that can be applied to any form of team-based work. As a Program Specialist I have designed numerous woodshop and exploration programs based around the morals of safety, love and respect to instill confidence in the campers.
Center for Architecture Science & Ecology at SOM, New York, NY, US, Designer/ Researcher
The Center for Architecture Science and Ecology (CASE) unites the design and engineering expertise of SOM and the research capabilities of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute to create radically new building systems, structures, and ecologies that respond to the natural world. Founded in 2008, the program is co-located within SOM’s New York office and multiple university labs. With a focus on sustainability, CASE blends private sector practicality, academic exploration, and scientific rigor to seek emergent technologies and develop them for practical applications in buildings.
During my time at CASE I researched expected social trends of a specified client in the year 2050, designed and prototyped future construction systems, focused on how a building can function most efficiently on natural systems, assisted in the advancement of PhD research on a duel-facade system and conducted the Architectural League of New York’s CASE Exhibition.
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY, US, BArch, School of Architecture
America's oldest technological university, RPI ingrains critical thinking skills coupled with a mastery of today's digital tools. Throughout my education I have developed a wide range of skills and techniques for the expression of ideas and concepts. With a portfolio that ranges from artistic installations at top performing arts centers to material studies that explore the possibilities of occupiable space created strictly from organic (even edible) material, I do not possess a ‘comfort zone’ in my creativity. I am enthusiastic about pushing the boundary of how we perceive and define space, coupled with a work ethic that compliments a wide range of teams.
