Located at the very point of the North End of Boston on reclaimed earth, the Boston Performing Arts Center essentially acts as a massive bar that reaches out into the harbor, allowing natural marsh conditions to inundate its underbelly, fully integrating itself with the ecological conditions of the site. The structural system, two large mega trusses on piles, suspend the theatres and interstitial lobby and support spaces in a top and back justified manner, leaving the urban facade as a granular, shrink wrapped condition that enhances the programmatic and circulatory nature of the interior.
