November 18, 2013 (Washington, D.C.) – The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has named Douglas Brinkley, FAIA, a 2013 LEED Fellow. The LEED Fellow Program is the green building industry’s most prestigious professional designation. USGBC’s LEED Fellows program “recognizes exceptional contributions to the green building community as well as significant achievements within a growing community of LEED Professionals,” according to the organization.

Brinkley, a Principal at Clark Nexsen, has spent more than 20 years focusing on green design and advocating its cause as an innovator and a green business leader. Brinkley was among 51 of the world’s most distinguished green building professionals to be selected as a 2013 LEED Fellow through a peer nomination and portfolio review process. His extensive portfolio includes the first LEED certified multi-building community college campus in the nation, Wake Tech’s Northern Wake Campus, in Raleigh, North Carolina, and the first LEED certified building in the UNC system, Carrington Hall School of Nursing at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Brinkley co-founded North Carolina’s first USGBC Chapter, where he has served on the Board as Treasurer, Vice Chair and Chair. He has been instrumental in the development of energy conservation codes as well as ground breaking energy and water conservation legislation in the state of North Carolina and on Capitol Hill. In 2010, Mr. Brinkley was elevated to Fellowship by the American Institute of Architects’ College of Fellows.
