Phase I Modernization of the Bruce - Monroe Elementary School

Part of the phased modernization initiative through the District of Columbia Public School system, I had the fortune of contributing to the renovation and modernization of this historic elementary school constructed in 1911.

The facility required a major spatial re-organization to satisfy education specification requirements from the District of Columbia, a substantial upgrade to the mechanical equipment, additional plumbing fixtures to meet code, new broadband service and measures to ensure access for all, with the overlay of preserving historic features and removing or hiding unsightly others.

We accomplished this all in a tight timeframe, starting pre-design in December, publishing construction documents and receiving approval from the Historic Preservation Review Board in April, and wrapping up eleven million dollars of renovation across approximately 85,000 square feet at the end of August.
