Henosis Campus Pavilion

The Henosis Pavilion at UNL’s City Campus, is complex in terms of site and context, yet simple in terms of function. The openness of “Pavilion” typology, even verging into “Folly,” presents the opportunity of great latitude for the designer. Following the 2013 UNL Campus and Landscape Masterplans, Big Plan, by Sasaki, this project called for detailed designs for the projected landscaped quadrangle at the corner of North 10th and Q streets. This new quadrangle will re-activate the southwest edge of the campus and stitch the Arts/Professional Corridor and the city together. Located in the Historic Core /Garden Campus character zone, and replacing the existing surface parking lots, this new people-centric space will feature a new campus pavilion at its heart. The Henosis pavilion will enhance campus life in the southwestern corner of the City Campus by housing informal activities such as eating, socializing, meeting, performing, and entertaining. Microclimatic strategies to account for Lincoln’s cold, windy winters and hot summers are employed, both within the landscape and in the pavilion itself. The project scope extends from architecture to landscape.
