Kolomuo Residence

Alongside an 1801 lava flow on the South Kohala coast of Hawaii, this residence has been designed as modern island architecture that connect the owner to nature, region and culture. On a property just over an acre in size, the home is organized as a series of interlocking separate pavilions oriented toward the glancing south Kohala coastline.

With finish materials selected for their durability as well as their contribution to the modern aesthetic and elegant sense of restraint, include zinc roof shingles, black aluminum doors and window frames, steel fascias and columns, integral colored cement plaster, and stone finishes. Interior finishes include stone and teak floors, grayish stained oak ceilings and millwork, granite countertops, and veneer plaster walls.

The entire design of residence was conceived as one concept of minimalism, restraint and craftsmanship.
