Three Centerbrook projects – a reimagined destination resort, a renovated campus center, and a new sports arena – have been recognized by The Chicago Athenaeum’s American Architecture Awards.

Working with a conservation-minded developer, Centerbrook reimagined a 1930’s Norman Romanesque stone manor house and 1960’s residential as a boutique resort hotel. Shepherd's Run, overlooking a tributary of Narragansett Bay, includes a formal courtyard for weddings and special events, firepits, meadows, and a vineyard. A bar, restaurant, and events hall spill onto the courtyard enclosed by the manor house and the residential buildings.

The Hubert Campus Center is Albertus Magnus College’s newly invigorated student hub that creates a social core for its community of 1,400 students. Housing state of-the-art amenities, the 38,800-square-foot center boasts a new pub, large lounge, fitness center, game room, and spirit shop, with several spaces for studying and campus events.

Fairfield University’s new multi-purpose, on-campus Leo D. Mahoney Arena is the home for the University’s basketball and volleyball teams, as well as concerts, commencements, and other significant events. The facility is a top-flight athletic venue that also reflects the University’s Jesuit identity by nurturing community and belonging among its alumni, students, and fans.

Organized by The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design in collaboration with The European Center for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and Metropolitan Arts Press, Ltd., the American Architecture Awards honors new significant buildings, landscapes, and planning projects in the United States and abroad by American architects and planners. Shepherd’s Run was recognized with the American Architecture Award, while the Hubert Campus Center and the Leo D. Mahoney Arena were recognized in the Honorable Mention category.
