I recently graduated from my Bachelor of Architectural Studies at Carleton University, and am about to start my Masters of Architecture at the University of Calgary.
CSV Architects, Ottawa, ON, CA, Architectural Assistant
WalterFedy, Waterloo, ON, CA, Architectural Assistant
I worked at WalterFedy for three summers, July-August 2010, May-August 2011 and May-August 2012.
My first summer I worked as an unpaid intern, learning a lot and gaining valuable experience. My second summer, before going off to University, I worked as an Architectural Assistant, mainly working with AutoCAD and SketchUp, doing everything from plans, sections and elevations, to millwork and concept designs. Because WalterFedy is also an Engineering Firm, I got to try my hand at some Electrical, Mechanical, Structural and Civil Drawings, which really helped me to understand how buildings operate.
In my third summer, between my first and second years at University, I was considered a co-op student (despite not being enrolled in my school's co-op program.) Having learned a lot at school, having gained skills in Photoshop and knowledge in design, I was given a much more active role on many projects, including putting together presentation drawings and award submissions in Photoshop and deciding colour schemes and products. I was also given the task of putting together a detail library of Wall Sections that met the new SB-10 Energy Efficiency Requirements, which gave me a great deal of instruction in construction, insulation and energy requirements and values.
Throughout my time at WalterFedy, I worked on many projects including: Kitchener-Wilmont Hydro, Google Offices Waterloo, Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Holy Rosary Parish, Johnson Controls Inc., Fanshawe College, Seneca College, University of Guelph, Univeristy of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier University, St. Jean-Marie Vianney Catholic School, Huron Woodbine Public School, Bluevale Collegiate Institute, Peel Police, Union Gas, Enbridge, SunLife, Manulife Financial and Central Public School.
