Our tiniest ADU to date! and yet…one of the best! Situated on a very narrow lot, only 25 feet wide, the front house is like a New Orleans shotgun house. This one rumored to be studio housing for silent movie era production hands. The owners came to us looking for a revamp of an existing garage/ studio space at the back that was useful but uninspiring as an art/work space. The client selected our pre-designed Studio ADU and we adapted it to the site and needs. With wrap around clerestory windows the roof seems to float above bringing an airiness to the space as well as clear views and light. A central skylight punctures the roof volume opening up to the sky and palm fronds above, the sun beams in a little bit differently each day. The kitchen is modest, something better suited to heating up tea or making coffee. A bathroom and shower tuck into the corner separate but connected to the light streaming in from above. Large openings at the front and back connect the ADU to small courtyards and landscape.
