As a proposal from the studio brief, we were tasked with designing a new “student union” for the University of Louisville at a potential site for expansion for the school. As part of an ever expanding college system, the University of Louisville’s Fine Arts Department has outgrown it’s current building situation on the main campus. The studio assignment became, for us,  a challenge of designing an entirely new campus from a warehouse site, and repurposing the buildings to house a growing Art, Music, & Graphic Design schools, as well as allow for the addition of new focuses in areas such as Architecture, Induristrial/Product, Furniture, and Interior Design.

Additionally, with the new site being situated over one mile away, the team was tasked with investigating ways in which the students can travel from the main university campus to the new design campus. Our research resulted in the proposal of an elevated park system to bridge campus to campus, and neignborhood to neighborhood over an existing, frequently run railway line.
