  • Repetitive Patterns: Screen Systems

    By Armando
    Feb 11, '06 4:44 PM EST

The use of magnifying technology has revealed the structural complexity of geological, organic, and synthetic materials on the Macro and Micro scales. These structures are based upon a repetition of cellular units that transform relative to structural stresses applied to it. Designers such as Gyorgy Kepes and Erwin Hauer have studied the relationship between modular systems found in nature and applied the patterns to visual studies and architectural screen systems in the 1960's. The research of our work will be extended into the contemporary situation where digital technology affords a new level of formal complexity and tectonic intricacy to be explored and fabricated.

  • Fluid Forms: Liquid Topographies

    By Armando
    Feb 8, '06 10:35 PM EST

The notion of fluidity will be explored, a natural process that produces patterns of flow that reveal how different properties of matter transform between liquid and solid over time. The focus of our experimentation will be how the liquid and solid aspects of the project can inform the design of... View full entry
