so i'm a little late on the uptake here....but here we are about a week into the semester tomorrow...
each year here at PSU starts with the annual Corbelletti Design Competition...some of you may be familiar with the namesake of this competition...R. Corbelletti, he was a brilliant drawer amongst other things, and had the absolutley amazing ability of drawing with both hands at the same time... he could sign his name from the beginning and the end and meet in the middle...
i digress...anyway the competition started as a drafting competition since 15 years ago there was little other options... but over the years as computer technology has become more prevailant, the interest in drafting has fallen off... in my 4 previous years here at PSU the majority of entries were simply made on photoshop using images from the internet or scanned in...
it was a truly sad state of affairs since i consider myself an accomplished draftsman, but all my work was fruitless in the face of the photoshopped pieces...
well finally this year, being the 15th annual, the administration has decided to return to the roots of the competition and only hand drawn submissions will be accepted... which is excellent b/c that is the only kind of submission i have ever made...
what is also great is that finally there will be some real quality work done...all of the previous winners are hung in our main office...the hand drawn work looks so great compared to the newer computer generated stuff...so a return to that will be nice...
although i fear the whole thing may have leave a bad taste in some folks mouths... since emphasis has been put on the computer here...many aren't so skilled when it comes to hand drafting and i expect there will be some entrants who wished they didn't have to take part in the competition this year...
but its a beginning...i'll update you with results, hopefully i'll be a winnner
