An economical, energy efficient, prototype house for hot, arid climates, the design concept incorporated both passive and active green building technology. Active green building systems included solar photovoltaic panels, solar hot water collectors, and a butterfly roof to collect rainwater which would be stored in a cistern. The house was designed to function 'off of the grid' - relying on the earth and sun to provide its power, water, heating, and cooling.
