This project was a renovation of a former police station into a duplex apartment. With only two windows at the south end of the space on the main level, the space was light-challenged. Three-quarter height partitions with glass transoms allow light to penetrate to the back of the space while giving visual privacy. The transom in the new powder room provides a light source at night. In the living spaces, furniture and countertops partition and separate functions. An open central kitchen provides the focal point for the space and countertops separate it from the dining room. The living room furniture arrangement creates a boundary between living and dining. On the lower level, the playroom is lit by the open stair. Bedrooms are interconnected by a sliding partition.
