(Thesis) The Memoriam: Aesthetics of Remembrance

The Memoriam is a tribute to the victims of earthquake in Nepal, honoring the deceased and survivors & encourage the people people surmounting the tragedy bravely.

Memory is said to begin where history ends. The starts and stop, of presences combine to form a history. The presences are the times when the living is in motion while the stop are the times when the living is dead. And there is a void when there is stop.  The Memoriam tries to capture the moments and tell the stories of survival & loss, embracing architectural memorial to preserve the memories into tangible forms.

The question is how can history and loss be physically represented? How can individuals be honored since the memorial commemorates many deaths? How can architecture provide resilience to the people?

Digging deeper into these questions, this project explores Buddhist approach to disaster recovery and collaborate with architectural features to support human emotions to end this suffering of loss?? In Buddhism, life does not end, but merely goes on in other form that are result of Karma and the continuous cycle is “Samsara”.
