NewYork-Presbyterian, David H. Koch Center

Patient- and family-centered care is embedded in the design of the 740,000 SF NewYork-Presbyterian David H. Koch Center, a world-class ambulatory care center that combines innovative clinical approaches and cutting-edge technology to provide exceptional care and a seamless patient experience.

The building is a robust ambulatory care center that provides interdisciplinary treatment for digestive diseases, cancer, and other outpatient services. The program includes 29 procedure rooms for ambulatory surgery, interventional radiology, and endoscopy; radiation oncology, infusion, and diagnostic imaging. The procedure areas feature 100% private prep/recovery rooms that are dedicated to the patient and their family for the duration of their visit. Decentralized caregiver stations located outside pairs of prep/recovery rooms bring care closer to the patient. Circulation is clear with a separation of on-stage and off-stage flows. Patients and families travel along light-filled perimeter corridors with clear wayfinding.

The building’s exterior has a distinctive obeche wood screen within a triple-glazed insulated curtain wall. The interior also uses wood tones to provide warmth to the public and patient spaces while other materials and details were chosen for their durability and maintainability.

The facility is designed for future flexibility. Each floor has standardized procedure rooms and exam layouts allowing flexible use of the rooms and the ability to adapt to changing technology over time. A long-span structural system reduced the number of columns and maximized uninterrupted floor area for evolving equipment and technology needs.
