About

I graduated in October 2015 from the March Architectural Design in University College of London, at the Bartlett Schoolof Architecture under the tutorship of Daniel Widrig with distinction. Before that I graduated from the NationalTechnical University of Athens, Department of Architecture, in February 2014 with a degree in Architectural Engineering (grade 8.8/10). In my opinion, digital architecture is a novel and emerging digital design practice. Due to the wonderful and inspiring tutorship of our professors I explored the world of digital design and physical fabrication under intense and everyday work. My studies at the Bartlett offered me the opportunity to discover my power and my passion in digital architecture; I learned to work in team, as well as individually, productively, intensively and under extreme pressure. In parallel, I believe my undergraduate studies have given me a solid grounding in the architectural field. My university offered a huge range of theoretical knowledge in architecture from history and morphology to construction details. In the final years of my degree I became fascinated with the interplay of influence between a building and its surrounding landscape and the fact that a building always converses with its environment. My dissertation entitled was based on this idea, which I then extended to my final design thesis project: Lake complex. Both these modules were graded 10/10.

It is my firm belief that one cannot have a complete opinion on architecture without gaining professional experience. This was the reason that I have worked part-time at my parents’ company as an architect assistant since 2009. I have worked mainly on residential projects, but have taken on more responsibilities as my experience and confidence has grown. My duties include: site measurement, 2D&3D design, technical drawing, choice of materials, client communication, costing, technical reports, site supervision and inspection. Then, in February 2013 I wanted to gain an understanding of different working practices, so, I sent my portfolio to one of the most uo-cpming offices in Athens called k-studio. The Karambatakis brothers, who graduated from the Bartlett school, founded this practice in 2004. After interview I was chosen for an internship. During my time there I worked on several interesting projects. The first was research on the design for a closed architectural competition for a library in Athens held under the auspices of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. Subsequently I worked on an apartment renovation in London. Other duties included technical drawing (using microstation 2D & 3D) for an exclusive bar restaurant , illustrated booklets (adobe InDesign), choice of materials, choice of furniture, interior design ideas, brand design ideas for new upcoming restaurants, communication with clients, communication with product firms (Greece and abroad), presentations to the office employers and employees on various projects, site inspection, 3D visualization. This experience came to end due to academic commitments when preparing my final dissertation project but I joined the team again for two months before I started my postgraduate studies. During this time I got along with technical drawings of a juice bar in London and a renovation of a 5star boutique hotel in Mykonos Island in Greece. Both these placements were unique and gave me the opportunity to experience different professional environments, different working practices and apply different scientific techniques. My internship in particular helped me to be more organized, improve my creativity and design skills and enable me to develop a professional approach to my work. It has become apparent from my work experience that although studying has provided me with an excellent technical foundation, it was also highlighted the fact that I was rarely given the opportunity at participating on seminars and workshops to create and design free parametric forms based on 3D visualization and computation. Indeed, this was the main motivating factor for my participation in the XAtelier workshops, of advanced architecture design at the Benaki Museum, Athens workshop of the AA visiting school and several others that included intense courses of 3Ddigital software practice such as grasshopper, Maya, processing, 3d studio max etc.

I appreciate your consideration of my application and look forward to further discussing this opportunity with you inperson. Please feel free to contact me anytime to arrange an interview.
