[au]workshop's concept is a modern, vertical interpretation of an indoor-outdoor sense of place and connection to the landscape, embodied in the concept of lanai. Using dramatically carved terraces and balconies to provide deeply shaded areas and frame views from these lanai, we sought pleasant contrast and variety, integrating gardens into nearly every front-of-house experience. A sky-lobby provides a dramatic introduction to surrounding views while private elevatoring provides desired exclusivity for the residences, culminating in a signature restaurant and bar at 400' above the street. Twice each year at Lahaina noon, the sun is perfectly vertical, and an oculus 400' above highlights the generous public plaza.

When complete, the 37 story tower will represent the first implemented project in the newly adopted Ala Moana Transit-Oriented District. With the Hawaii Convention Center immediately across the street and the largest mall in the state —Ala Moana Center—located within a five minute walk, the project will be an instrumental catalyst in the continued revitalization of the Ala Moana Neighborhood.
