ATSR created a STEAM addition for an existing urban campus. The
addition made a flowing connection between two existing buildings set at
multiple levels. The two-story Commons is the new hub of the building and is
filled with natural light, taking advantage of beautiful views overlooking
the nearby Mississippi River.
Students can work collaboratively in small group rooms or break out into a variety of seating arrangements in the Commons and overlooking balcony. Transparency and overhead doors create natural connections between classrooms and the Commons.
In art spaces, and maker spaces there was a focus on bringing natural light and openness to classrooms that have traditionally been tucked into the back corners of schools. The school had a vision to make these spaces vibrant and thriving and we helped provide that with floor to ceiling glass and interior and exterior garage doors for flexibility.
The addition includes 5 science labs, 2 art studios, ‘maker-space,’ classrooms, administration, student commons, staff lounge, and school chapel. Renovated math classrooms are located nearby in the existing building.
