ATO Architects is pleased to invite the public to her Annual Lecture. The 9th ATO Annual Lecture looks at the unpredictable times we live in today, and how adaptive design, education and technology can make sustainability become actionable and practical for our local context.
This year we have chosen speakers for their cutting-edge knowledge and experience in the fields of adaptive design, technologies, and education. They are Stefanie Adisa, Director of Studio Elementals; Hassan Anifowose, Co-Founder, Chronos Studeos; and Professor Michael Adebamowo, Dean of Faculty of Environmental Sciences at University of Lagos.
Stefanie Adisa (former Theuretzbacher) (Mag.Arch, ZT, RIBA) is a practicing architect who also engages in artistic and academic projects. Since 2015 she has been Director and lead architect of the architecture firm Studio Elementals in Lagos, Nigeria. Recent works have been in Nigeria, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Liberia and Iraq. Apart from leading Studio Elementals, she is on the advisory board of Open House Lagos and engages with urban research stakeholders such as the Lagos Urban Design Initiative. Furthermore, she is an EDGE expert and currently involved in issues of sustainability and green building practices and their impact on the built environment. Stefanie speaks at conferences and her work with Studio Elementals and personal Interviews have been widely published.
Hassan Anifowose is Co-Founder at Chronos Studeos, Chronos Stores & PrintMyDrawings. He is also the Host of the Creative Architects Event, a serial Entrepreneur, and a registered Architect. He has, since founding Chronos Studeos, been an active contributor to the visualization industry in Nigeria on a large scale. He earned his Bachelor of Technology in Architecture B.Tech (Arc.) from the Federal University of Technology (FUTA), Akure and a Master of Environmental Design (with specialization in Architecture) MED(Arch.) from the University of Lagos. He is presently a PhD in Architecture candidate at the Texas A&M University.
Prof. Mike Adebamowo is an architect and sustainable architecture specialist with interest in thermal comfort, architectural science, and energy use in buildings. His research work focuses on sustainable workplaces, energy consumption on buildings, assessment of indoor environmental quality of buildings, environmental performance of buildings and sustainable architectural design. He holds B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Architecture both from University of Ife, (now Obafemi Awolowo University) Ile-Ife. He later obtained a Master of Architecture degree with Distinction at the University of Lagos and a Ph.D degree in Geography and Planning. Notable works include the: remodeling of the Faculty of Arts Building, Unilag and The Citadel for The Latter Rain Assembly. He is a member of the Network for Comfort and Energy Use in Buildings (NCEUB) UK, and a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA).
