Singer is the renovation of an apartment named after the building in which it is located. Built in 1939 on the iconic Rua de Sá da Bandeira, the Singer building is an Art Deco landmark in the heart of Porto. The new design looks carefully at the original details and material palette and reinterprets them in a new layout, less compartmentalized, more open and flexible for new occupants. The new layout opens up a second circulation axis adjacent to the main façade, flooding the space with light from both sides.
The bedrooms are part of an open layout of social spaces in a capsule, their privacy preserved through the use of curtains. The spacious living room is located on the corner of the building, divided in two by an axis of symmetry that perfectly coincides with the angle between the two streets.
In each new element added, both the design and the choice of materials are taken from the existing elements, be it the Deco-inspired handles of the kitchen cabinets, the closet and door handles in oak wood, the window frames in the bedrooms or the stonework in the bathroom in the same Pedra de Lioz as the window sills.
