School Julianow

The important task of the 21rst century school is to provide the sense of security for its pupils. The priority of the project was creating the object that is student’s friendly being the intimate object at the same time. The school is the fortress from outside while is opened inside to the south recreational areas.

The school has its internal green atrium totally opened form the south that enables quick communication with sport area and the park. The area between the school and the southern boarder was divided on two parts: • sport area in cascade system in south-west part • recreation area in south-east part

The form of the building is a compact two-storey form. From the outside the building is simple, elegant form that is only cut in the area of main entrance creating the green entry square. Already from the main entrance we have the eye-contact with another green area- internal atrium. The atrium fulfills few functions. The additional south exposition wall was gained giving the space for the classrooms. Additionally it gives us the panoramic view on the green and sport areas. The passage between the school and sport area creates the border mark for the people outside the school that signals them where the school area is.

In the form of the school there is no clear division on educational and sport part. The whole of the object was “packed” in wooden vertical blinds. The different depth of the blinds creates on façade checkerboard pattern. The blinds are the breakers of the sun on the southern elevation protecting the building from overheating. The object has its fifth façade- the roof. On the flat roof different size canopies were designed, being the skylights or cover for the roof equipment .
