Ocean 650 at Waterfront Square

As part of a master plan to revitalize the area, Arrowstreet designed this 230-unit, 220,000 square-foot residential building on a site located across from Revere Beach and just a one-minute walk from the public T-Station. Taking advantage of the beachfront location, the design inspiration came from a modern reinterpretation of classic New England coastal architecture.

Shades of silvery grays and blues with strong white accents, reference the precedents while responding to the scale of the larger building transitioning the traditional “beach architecture” to “beach urban.” The design team embraced the connection to the beach and the lively lifestyle of Revere Beach by incorporating colors, driftwood tones, and textures of the ocean to create a sophisticated coastal living experience.

The interior amenity spaces offer a variety of choices for the residents to relax, play, and entertain, including a private dining area, ocean view community gathering and coworking spaces, and fitness center. Several reclaimed wood fireplace seating areas with hues and textures of blues and greens create a soothing, beach-side experience with a collection of colorful, eclectic furniture and accessories. The design extends to the outdoor living spaces with beautiful patios, pool, and deck areas that include grilling areas incorporating outdoor furniture and planters. The rooftop deck provides an oasis for sun lovers and ocean watchers with quiet, comfortable seating areas ideal for relaxing and socializing.

Sustainability and resiliency were strong considerations in the design due to its location to the ocean. The residential units and amenity spaces allow maximum daylighting, and low-e windows, operable in both the bedrooms and living rooms, promote natural ventilation. A playful vegetated wall is featured in the social lounge bringing biophilic design elements into the interior. Reclaimed wood is used in the lobbies and corridors. Exterior common spaces include low maintenance and sustainable vegetation, including a variety of seagrasses.

At the street level and upper parking levels, uses have been incorporated where feasible to provide the building with an active presence on the street. The entry lobby, leasing, and amenity areas activate the pedestrian experience with the interior design emphasizing the 180-degree panorama views to the water.
