About

My name is Carla, and i'm 24 years old. I'm from Portugal, a small island call Madeira. I've recently finished my architecture course, in Universidade Lusíada do Porto. In the year of 2010, i've went for a all year to Venice, IUAV, for Erasmus; i've basically learned the basic's of conservation and urbanism.

My finaly project for the university, was base on the idea of giving the african people a second chance. The title for this project was, "Africa, emergency architecture, Bambu-Slum, between the economic, social and environmental problems", the idea of a home built with your on hands, and most of all, using local and natural materials. The project was justified in the people life experiences, tradition and culture. Today, Africa is a continent full of experiences, full of misery, full of starving people, full of civil wars; it's our job as architects and as citizens to create a healthy environment for those who don't even have the possibility to provide for them and their children. Bambu-Slum, stands in the idea of an architecture with natural materials, Bambu and Earth, and thus knowing the environmental and economic problems in the continent, most of all Sub-Saharan Africa, these two appear to be the perfect fit for the cause, helping those who really need our help.
