Renovating a historic monument, especially a place of worship, is a responsibility. A huge fissure ran through the plot of Shiraz Mosque, resulting in cracked walls and steps. The drainage for the hauz ( pond meant for mandatory ablutions before going for prayers) was also affected due to the fissure. The two feet thick walls of the mosque were clad with onyx tiles brought from Iran. The wooden trusses above the walls were repaired, the roof stitched with steel plates and covered with Mangalore tiles. A retaining wall was built adjacent to the hauz and the pond has been cast again in RCC to cover the cracked areas. The entrance, with four minarets, has been clad in baked ceramic tiles. Accessories were specially imported from Iran.
