The 1st Street Living, located in Des Moines, Iowa, is an urban co-living housing project, that brings the community together through its different amenities. The project includes an in site Food Hub Market, as well as a public Greenhouse accessible to local city members. The building's Food Hub program, sits at ground level, offering optimal access to locals through the nearby pedestrian paths. Furthermore, the orientation of the two buildings addresses the northern pedestrian bridge from which locals circulate from.
The Food Hub programs are located towards the eastern side, adjacent to the pedestrian paths. The Food Hub provides amenities such as a package distribution center, instructional classroom, event space, and a greenhouse. Additionally, a local market located at the very top corner can open into the spanning courtyard providing additional space for vendors.
The co-living program housing, which begins at the second level, accommodates eight residential suites, allowing for four long-term residents per unit. While an additional ten single units accommodate guests for short-term housing.
