Established in 1884, New York’s Grolier Club is the nation’s oldest organization dedicated to book and graphic arts, sponsoring free exhibitions and programs for bibliophiles and enthusiasts. For the club’s centennial celebration, ABA’s renovation reconceives its exhibitions, visitor services, and rare books displays, making them more accessible, engaging, and memorable.
Integrating preservation, new design, and innovative systems and technology, ABA redesigned the historic entry and lobby, the exhibitions hall, and visitor services. The new design provides universal access, expanded exhibition space, and gracious settings for programs and events. New approaches to collections presentation, archival display, and stewardship are woven into the design. The Exhibition Hall features a tiered design, with special collections at the mezzanine and, at the main level, new glass and cherry-lined wall and table casework, finishes, lighting, and storage. A media wall up-sizes exhibit graphics and supports presentations. With its renewed interiors and a dynamic approach to exhibitions, the renovated Grolier connects its heritage to its future.
