New landmark of the city

This project would fall not so much into the traditional library but rather function as a place of diverse activities in the city, an essential part of the inhabitants’ lifestyles as well as the ”face” or symbol of the city. It would also be the face of a well-known tourist region and thus make many appearances in the media.

This proposal is for a new urban space to act as the library, the park and the new activities space of the city. It is also a meaningful place where people naturally spend their day to day lives. This library as a new landscape of the city would be truly unique and give the community a new rebranded identity.

Land Development

This proposal aims to inspire the direction of urban development plan in the future. The 3 phases consist of (1) new city library with the park. (2) the land at the Riverside, in front of the library which is to be riverside park, connecting the library more closer to the river. (3) The old plant building next to the library, planned to be new cultural education in term of technology digital media services.

Rather than a mere assembly of books and readers, this combination of lands development would be the full services of new trend library which is able to combines new functions and traditional function continuously.

Architecture Idea

“Grows the tree limb library on the park”

The theme of merging architecture and landscape naturally is applied to use with the form and space of the architecture.

Nature structure as a limb is the main character of the architecture. The building grows from the ground as a landscape element, creating flow space in 3 dimension path and sacrifice ground for the large landscape.

The nature structure idea creates flow space in 3 dimension path. The flow space creates diverse places. Diverse places create diverse activities.

Terrain of the landscape is another form of architecture, creating outdoor activities and assembling people for all generations.

PLAN & FUNCTION

Rather than being just a space of reading or collecting the books, the new library in the modern day should be a place that embraces diverse activities of all generations of people. In this project, we pictured student, parent, kids and workers all people spilling out after class or work and populating the library and the park like their new community space.

The building is operated by 2 wings (A) the library and (B) the cultural education zone.

The large landscape area is managed diverse functions for all generations. The physical training is located separately from the main building and being part of the landscape seamlessly.  

The tower is to be the attractive destinations. Function of the tower are library entrance, shop, cafeteria and City view point providing for the visitors and citizen.
