I am a current graduate student pursuing my Masters in Historic Preservation Planning at the Department of City and Regional Planning. My keen interest and passion for historic architecture and preservation has led me to explore several aspects of the field through my academic and professional experience.
During my 4+ years as a practicing architect, I have worked on projects that involved extensive research and documentation of the heritage precincts in the city of Mumbai. This includes the proposed restoration of the Cathedral of the Holy Name, Mumbai, a 100-year-old Neo-gothic structure, on which I worked as Project architect on the preliminary cleaning of the stone façade proposing a phased plan for the complete restoration. Through my projects, I have also undertaken initiatives to educate stakeholders about the cultural significance of the heritage through workshops, heritage walks, etc. My experience in conservation and outreach with Art Deco Mumbai, a non-profit organization, gave me the opportunity to lead several outreach initiatives.
At Cornell, courses in American urban history, material conservation, law, and planning have broadened my understanding of preservation in the context of the United States. I had the opportunity to work on the landscape restoration of a historic mansion in Syracuse, NY, as project manager for Design Connect, a multi-disciplinary, student-run, community design organization based at Cornell.
I also completed an optional semester last fall at Cornell’s Gensler Family AAP Center based in New York City, during which I had the opportunity to collaborate with the Mayor’s Office of Climate and Environmental Justice as a part of the planning studio. This experience, along with my internship as a preservation architect at Robert A.M. Stern Architects, has made me well-versed in design and planning, especially in the context of New York City.
As an architect and historic preservation major, I am always looking for opportunities to combine my design sensibilities and drawing skills, with my passion for historic structures, and put them to practical use.
