About

I have been in Tucson for the last five years working on my Bachelors of Architecture at the College of Architecture, Planning, and Landscape Architecture at the University of Arizona. The School of Architecture here in Tucson has encouraged me to study and to design projects focusing on environmental and cultural conditions of place. The process is inspired by a strong passion for place and its people. I have learned much in the almost five years I have spent in the architecture program. However, I feel that my education is only beginning. The more I learn, the more I understand how much I need to learn. This school has broadened, as well as deepened, my knowledge of design and encouraged me to develop strong design ideas. In the last year, I have had the opportunity to work for a local Tucson architecture firm. It is opened my eyes to the practice of architecture beyond the educational world. I have been able to experience how the firm works but I am looking forward to a new direction in the architecture and design. However, school and work is only two of the ways that I have been able to mature in my architectural experience. The American Institute of Architecture Students has challenged me to grow architecturally, as well as personally. Through AIAS I have been able to connect with architecture students from all over the nation and the world, as well as architecture, and local professionals. My involvement with the AIAS attending multiple regional and national conferences, has opened my eyes to the scope of architecture on local, regional, and national levels.

Intelligent response to time and place - this has been an ultimate goal of mine throughout my education thus far. It is the basic truths that stand the strongest. Architecture is many things, but to me, architecture is not just the building, but also the place, the space, the living of the people within it. It is not just about the art of the building, but also about the experience of the person. The space is shaped by the person and by the human body. And the building is shaped by its place – its location, culture, and life. Architecture responds. It is a response to climate, culture, finances, design, art, transportation, living, materials, limitations, and expectations. Architecture has its place within the city and within the growth of the urban fabric. I am inspired by architecture that is design for both the people and the place, not just for the art of the architecture. Architecture should be both thoughtful and responsive to the city. It has the power to turn urban spaces in special places.

Employment

University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ, US, Teaching Assistant, Structures

At the school, I have been honored with the position of Teacher’s Assistant for three different structures courses. I am working with 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students to insure the success of the next generation of architecture students. Normally, TA positions are saved for graduate students, but this job is offered to only two students in my class. Twice a week, I work with the students on their project development both in drawings and models. The structures course was one of my favorite classes, and I feel that I am dedicated to the success of the students with whom I work.

With this new position, I have many new responsibilities and roles to fill. I am both the resource and the voice of the chapters in the West Quadrant to the AIAS Board of Directors. On a quad level, I am the support and resource for the chapters for 2013-2014 school year. I am committed to being available for the chapters to come to me with questions, issues, and great updates from each chapter. I have made it a goal to continue to strengthen the communication between all chapters within the West Quad. On a national board level, I am their voice. With good communication, I can bring the issues that the quad is facing to a national level. I am one of six elected members (two officers and four directors), who are committed to moving the AIAS forward. We are excited to work had to make this organization stronger.
