Focused at demonstrating the core values of adaptive reuse (sustainability & recycling), this project breaks away from the normative approach to corporate office design. In place of crisp white interiors, there is a variety of natural textures and raw materials. Designed for Milaan, an NGO working towards developmental well being of rural adolescent girls, the spaces are designed to be flexible and collaborative. 

The existing structure was stripped to its very basics - wall & ceiling plaster was removed, as was the heavy mud based roof waterproofing. The exposed concrete and brickwork has been supplemented by locally sourced Kota stone and the openings are framed using recycled wood and metal. Energy efficiency was a key part of the overall strategy, so lights and faucets are sensor activated. In keeping with the overall aesthetic, the desks are also topped with recycled wood. The façade was modified to be more climate responsive– using sun shading for windows, reflective exterior paint and recycled terrazzo flooring on the terrace. Hard flooring in the open space was converted into a break-out area with a garden.

Every design project is an opportunity to make a difference in the overall consumption of resources. This project demonstrates our ethos of sustainability, recycling, up-cycling and passive responsive architectural design.
