THE FRACTAL AND THE PICTURESQUE

This project began with borrowed elements from Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona Pavilion and Chinese pagoda design, combined to make a unique "chunk" to be processed through a fractal script in grasshopper. Using the output, a scheme for a high speed railway station was developed. Considering the concepts of the Picturesque throughout the project, the design for the terminal was adapted to highlight its natural cinematic qualities with it varying apertures in both its vertical and horizontal components, and its integration with the landscape of Xi'an. Additionally, the composition of the building design with traditional Chinese landscape paintings further support these concepts across the project's modes of representation.
