About

Upon graduating from the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture Department, Tanta University, Egypt, Ahmed began his career in 2002 in Cairo as an architect with the Aga Khan Cultural Service – Egypt, a part of the AKDN and AKTC Programs. This service focuses on the physical, social, cultural, and economic revitalization of Cairo’s historic urban environments. As part of this organization for more than 5 years, Ahmed was involved in very specific, special projects, such as performing intensive study of the historic buildings and urban developments in the Al Darb Al Ahmar area, as well as with the cultural activities programs, wherein he interrogated the idea of architecture’s effect on people’s behavior and traditions. He worked to renovate and restore some of the most beautiful historic complexes in old Cairo, and contributed to the design and construction of the southern gate of Al Azhar Park.

During this period, Ahmed finished his pre-master studies of building techniques and technology at Cairo University in the Architecture Department. Additionally, during this time, he designed and supervised a very unique eco-lodge resort along the Red Sea (Al Qusair City) using traditional building techniques.

In addition to working with a group of architects to study Egypt’s traditional architecture, especially the Ramsis Wisa Wassef Art Center in Giza and an old village called Naqada, he used his talent in freehand sketching to document via illustration some of the beautiful old buildings of the area. He analyzed the ways in which architecture is affected by tradition and religion across the centuries.

In July 2007, Ahmed moved to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and started his gulf region experience working as the head of the Architecture Design Department in the Design and Build Company; this company is one of Arch. Abdul Elah Al Muhannah’s group, which focuses on design and build projects. In this position, he was involved in the supervision of both design and site activities, taking the lead on all projects, starting from contractual issues to completing building construction and occupation.

In March 2010, Ahmed started working for the Zuhair Fayez Partnership as a Senior Design Architect. He led a team of six architects in the design of mega and key projects in Saudi Arabia. Ahmed and his team managed a variety of building types, such as healthcare, office buildings, educational campuses, and cultural complexes. Clients also included those from the private sector, ministries, and governmental sectors.

Ahmed became a LEED Green Associate in 2013 in support of his philosophy that architecture should play a sustainable and environmental role in the physical world. In June 2014, he began working as a design team leader in the Arab Engineering Bureau, in Doha, Qatar. He currently leads a team of seven architects. Ahmed also manages the design studio’s activities as well as liaising and coordinating with project stakeholders, including but not limited to clients, landlords, local authorities, sub-consultants and specialists, MEP, and structural departments.
