Competition: 100 Mile House - Vancouver

To keep a vibrant, mixed income community, Vancouver allows laneways to hold an extra home for rental. The design integrates two homes in a common aesthetic and spatial layout while observing local Vancouver code.

The competition sources the project within 100 miles by using local materials and methods, including reclaimed lumber from local parks; red cedar siding from the Iisaak forest resources; FSC wood framing to meet BC’s ‘Wood First’ legislation, gyp board by Certain Teed, and local fabricators for railings, storefronts, and windows.

The project uses sustainable technology and ideas such as geothermal heat pumps for heating and cooling and
south facing glazing for passive heat gain where possible.
