Helsinki is slowly undergoing a transition from an economical center of Finland to an expressive art & cultural hub under the influence of art and technology. In response, the proposed design possesses a strong identity where the architecture itself is undergoing a transition under different conditions, from day to night and from summer to winter. It appears differently due to the significant difference between daylight duration during summer and winter in Helsinki.
The site for the museum involves 3 contextual elements - urban, nature & harbour. The form is generated by setting back from each element, creating public spaces in response to the context. The museum becomes the connection between 3 converging elements and strengthens communal interactions throughout the site.
The strong integration between outdoor and indoor exhibition spaces promotes a continuous museum experience. By treating the circulation and exhibition spaces as one, the flexible galleries enhance the continuous experience.
