Competition entry for a new transportation hub in Charleston, SC. The city is interested in adding a light rail line to connect the downtown and historic districts. The new hub would serve daily commuters and tourists arriving and departing via various modes of travel including car, bus, rail, bicycle, and on foot. It plugs into an existing North-South traffic flow, which is deviated by the raised ground plane. Space is given to typical transport hub program; station services, ticketing and queuing, and waiting areas (parking is handled off-site). The transport hub also includes an office with meeting space, retail, cycling center, and outdoor public park space. The offices and public meeting hall are given views to existing green spaces, and by elevating the ground plane, we are given a new perspective to Charleston’s typically flat topography.
