After 45 years as Wayne State's Engineering and Sciences Library, the 7-story building was deemed obsolete. In efforts to keep the building relevant, Wayne State decided to renovate the entire interior of the library which now supports Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Equipped with, but not limited to wet labs, a makerspace, lecture rooms, and an elephant skeleton, the new interior of Wayne State's now S.T.E.M. building pays homage to the past while utilizing the technology and tools of today.
